Satellite tournaments: information and explanation

How do satellites work?

Satellites are lower buy-in tournaments that let you win entry into higher buy-in events. They’re a great way to qualify for major tournaments for only a fraction of the cost.

You can find satellite tournaments under the 'Tourney' tab on mobile or by selecting 'Satellite' in the tournament filter in the desktop lobby.

To see the bigger tournament a satellite leads to:

  1. Open the tournament lobby of the satellite you want to play.
  2. Under the 'Home' tab, select the link that reads “Satellite to [tournament name]”.
  3. You’ll be taken directly to the target tournament’s window.

If you win a satellite, you won’t receive cash. Instead, you’ll receive a seat in the target tournament.

You may not always be able to unregister from the target event. If you already know you don’t want to play a certain tournament, avoid entering satellites that lead to it. When unregistering isn’t allowed, we’ll show a warning message before you register.

If you win multiple satellites to the same tournament

You can’t register twice for the same event.

If you qualify more than once, you won’t receive a second seat or additional cash. Instead, we credit the value of the target tournament’s buy-in to your account as Tournament Money (T-Money).

When you have T-Money, it is automatically used before real money to pay for tournament buy-ins.

If you win a satellite after the target tournament has already started

Here’s what can happen:

  • Late registration is still open. You’re registered automatically, although unregistering may not be possible.
  • The target tournament is already in progress. You’re seated automatically and can’t unregister.
  • Late registration is closed or you’re already registered. You receive the target tournament’s buy-in in T-Money instead.
